We are seeking a Chief Actuary to join our Corporate Officer Leadership Team, overseeing the actuarial function and driving key business decisions related to forecasting, pricing, reserving, and reinsurance. This leadership role requires a strategic thinker and seasoned actuary who will collaborate with senior executives, contribute to corporate planning, and represent the company to key external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Actuarial Oversight
- Lead the development and implementation of premium and loss/ALAE forecasting models for corporate planning.
- Serve as a trusted adviser to the Senior Leadership Team, influencing pricing strategies, reserving philosophies, and organizational policies.
- Oversee state-of-the-art product rating plans and ensure the integrity of rate indications using accepted actuarial methodologies.
Collaboration and Leadership
- Collaborate with pricing actuaries and underwriting teams on assumptions, modeling results, and portfolio profitability impacts.
- Present quarterly and semi-annual loss & LAE reserve reviews to the Reserve Committee and Audit Committee, respectively.
- Guide the preparation of data for annual reinsurance renewal, including property catastrophe exposure and casualty excess loss information.
Data and Technology Management
- Oversee data reporting and enhance the functionality of the data warehouse (version 2.0).
- Ensure effective use of reserving software, PowerBI, and internal systems (WINS, ImageRight, SharePoint).
Team Leadership and Development
- Build, mentor, and manage high-performing actuarial and data analytics teams.
- Foster a culture of professional development, providing training and coaching to colleagues.
External Representation
- Represent the company to the Board of Directors, AM Best, reinsurers, and other external entities.
- Maintain alignment with industry best practices and emerging trends in actuarial science and insurance.
Qualifications and Skills
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) designation required.
Experience
- 15+ years of actuarial experience, including expertise in reserving, pricing, reinsurance, and ratemaking.
- 15+ years of management experience with a proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams.
Skills
- Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present to large groups.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, reserving software, PowerBI, and other internal systems.
- Highly organized with the ability to develop and execute annual plans.
