As the US Actuarial Director, you will lead a team of actuaries to design and maintain pricing models, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive profitability for commercial auto lines. This role involves analyzing trends, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and communicating complex actuarial insights to stakeholders and investors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop an actuarial team in building and refining pricing models.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Oversee adherence to industry regulations and professional standards.
  • Pricing Model Development: Create and enhance pricing models to assess risks and profitability for commercial auto products.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze large datasets to identify trends, inform pricing strategies, and support data-driven decisions.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with underwriting, product development, and finance teams to align strategies with business objectives.
  • Performance Monitoring: Continuously evaluate the performance of commercial auto insurance products, adjusting pricing models to ensure profitability and competitiveness.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Present pricing reports and explain complex actuarial concepts to senior management, investors, and other stakeholders.
  • Investor Relations: Act as the primary liaison for investor inquiries related to loss ratio, pricing, and reserving for commercial auto lines.
  • Market Awareness: Stay informed of industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks to adapt pricing strategies accordingly.
  • Regulatory Support: Manage rate filings and ensure accurate submissions to regulatory bodies.
  • Expertise Sharing: Provide actuarial advice and foster a data-driven culture across the organization.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Commercial Auto Expertise: Proven experience in commercial auto or fleet insurance with a deep understanding of this market segment.
  • Quantitative Background: Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, or a related field.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with insurance regulations and pricing compliance requirements.
  • Actuarial Credentials: Associate or Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS or FCAS) or an equivalent designation.
  • Technical Proficiency: Expertise in tools like Excel, R, Python, SAS, SQL, or similar platforms for data analysis and pricing model development.
  • Analytical Skills: A strong analytical mindset with attention to detail to assess risks and make informed decisions.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to articulate complex actuarial concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborative Experience: Demonstrated success working with underwriting and product teams to align pricing strategies.
  • Preferred:
    • Experience with VC-backed companies and knowledge of the venture capital landscape.
    • Advanced skills in predictive modeling and machine learning techniques.
