We are seeking a Reserving Actuary to join a newly formed actuarial function, working closely with underwriting, claims, and leadership teams to embed a robust reserving framework. The role will focus on delivering impactful, efficient, and insightful analysis that informs strategic decision-making, enhances portfolio performance, and improves communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Reserving & Performance Analysis
- Establish and embed a reserving framework that supports underwriting and management strategies, enabling ownership of results and optimization of portfolio management.
- Deliver insightful quarterly reserving analysis, ensuring underwriters and claims teams can explain trends, assumptions, and variances relative to prior periods.
- Ensure assumptions are transparent, realistic, and well-documented, considering historical experience and future uncertainties.
- Highlight uncertainty effectively, providing a range of possible loss ratio outcomes to stakeholders.
- Stakeholder Collaboration
- Partner with claims and underwriting teams to ensure they actively contribute to and own the forecasting and estimation process.
- Facilitate discussions on aggregate claims performance relative to assumptions and previous trends.
- Engage underwriters in presenting final quarterly results to management, working collaboratively with claims and actuarial teams.
- Effective Communication & Visualization
- Present results with clarity and impact, using strong visualization aids to communicate insights effectively.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to agree on actionable insights and strategies between quarters.
- Process Automation & Continuous Improvement
- Drive process automation, reducing the time required for the reserving cycle and freeing up capacity for deeper analysis and investigation of key trends.
- Evolve and enhance reserving assumptions over time, ensuring full engagement with business stakeholders.
- Data Management & Governance
- Take ownership of data quality within the reserving process, ensuring data is accurate and aligns with expectations.
- Identify, report, and escalate data issues, providing clear communication on causes, materiality, and recommended solutions.
- Support the operational design of processes for data compilation, conformity, and validation across systems and sources.
- Strategic Contribution
- Provide valuable insights through market-level analysis that enhances forecasting and contributes to broader business strategy.
- Support decision-making processes with technical expertise, ensuring communication is clear, honest, and pragmatic.
Qualifications & Experience
- University degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or a related field.
- Qualified Actuary (FIA or equivalent).
- Experience partnering with claims and underwriting teams to influence commercial decisions and portfolio management strategies.
