Role Overview

As a senior member of the actuarial team, you will take on a broad and influential role, leading key deliverables, engaging with various stakeholders, and proposing initiatives to enhance actuarial processes. The role involves significant exposure to business functions, project development, and regulatory reporting, making it ideal for someone looking to take ownership and collaborate effectively across teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee syndicate deliverables and contribute to developing actuarial capabilities.
  • Lead the quarterly review of reserves for international business.
  • Set key actuarial assumptions and methods for GAAP and Solvency II purposes.
  • Conduct portfolio analyses and contribute to discussions with underwriting, pricing, claims, and finance teams to improve results.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Capital on embedding internal capital models and frameworks.
  • Work closely with pricing actuaries and underwriters to align reserving and capital assumptions.
  • Deliver clear and timely internal and external reporting (e.g., regulatory and Lloyd’s requirements).
  • Continuously enhance tools, insights, and methodologies to maintain competitive advantage.
  • Support the Chief Actuary in producing actuarial function component reports and ensuring consistency across functions.
  • Develop and maintain robust controls over modelling inputs, parameters, judgments, and outputs.
  • Identify and lead enhancements to reserving and capital modelling tools and processes.
  • Ensure best practices and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (FIA) or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, Accounting, Business, or a related field.

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies

  • Strong expertise in GI reserving and capital modelling approaches.
  • Experience in Lloyd’s reporting.
  • Proficiency in tools like MS Excel, Access, SQL, Power BI, and ResQ.
  • Ability to communicate complex modelling processes and results effectively to stakeholders.
  • Proven leadership and team development skills, with a track record of empowering junior colleagues to assume leadership roles.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Flexible, enthusiastic approach with a desire to network and grow professionally.
