Key Responsibilities
Implement the Actuarial Control Cycle
- Data Management:
- Use expert judgment and domain knowledge to review data and model outputs.
- Perform detailed data analyses and propose innovative solutions to complex problems.
- Modelling:
- Critically evaluate assumptions, ensuring robust rationale and accuracy.
- Develop and present strategic recommendations, assessing risks and opportunities.
- Reporting:
- Address challenges effectively and justify assumptions and solutions with confidence.
Distil and Communicate Information
- Present actionable insights to senior management, influencing strategic and business planning.
- Proactively identify opportunities for optimisation and define future requirements beyond immediate needs.
Build and Transfer Skills
- Serve as a reference point for the team, setting high standards and sharing expertise.
- Coach and mentor Actuaries and Actuarial Specialists/Managers, identifying skill gaps and fostering development opportunities.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Drive quality and accountability within the team, maintaining a solution-oriented approach to challenges.
- Lead the team in achieving functional strategies and budgets while fostering engagement and continuous improvement.
- Work collaboratively within and across teams, maintaining clear, timely communication, and mediating effectively to resolve disputes.
What You Need to Thrive
- Qualifications & Expertise:
- Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (or equivalent) or significant experience in actuarial roles.
- Proven experience in financial services, particularly in health or life insurance.
- Technical Skills:
- Advanced proficiency in SQL, including complex query writing and editing.
- Strong working knowledge of Python and data libraries (e.g., pandas, numpy).
- Familiarity with advanced visualisation/dashboard tools like Power BI.
