We are seeking an experienced Managing Director/Actuary to lead innovative actuarial analysis in reserving, rate indications, and claims evaluation. This role combines deep technical expertise with strategic leadership to enhance the organization’s financial performance and actuarial processes. The Managing Director/Actuary will play a pivotal role in developing advanced methodologies, analyzing key business drivers, and mentoring actuarial team members.


Key Responsibilities

Actuarial Analysis

  • Conduct reserving analysis using both traditional and non-traditional methods, while developing new approaches to improve accuracy.
  • Perform internal rate indication analysis and design innovative methodologies to refine these processes.
  • Analyze loss trends using internal and external data to identify drivers and predict frequency and severity trends.

Claims and Metrics Development

  • Develop and evaluate key claims metrics and statistics to improve reserve estimate accuracy.
  • Collaborate with claims management to create new operational reports and assess the profitability impact of claims initiatives.

Leadership and Mentorship

  • Serve as a mentor and provide professional development for actuarial team members.
  • Lead peer reviews of reserve analyses and offer actionable insights for continuous improvement.
  • Maintain an external network to stay updated on emerging trends and approaches in the insurance industry.

Strategic and Operational Contributions

  • Work with the Finance team to ensure accurate booking of bulk reserves.
  • Serve as the Appointed Actuary for assigned companies, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the development and implementation of solutions to address complex business challenges.

Qualifications

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Actuarial Science, or a related field.
  • Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS).

Experience and Skills

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in a professional actuarial or analytics environment.
  • Proven expertise in loss reserve, rate indication, and claim metric analysis, including implementing innovative solutions.
  • Strong understanding of the insurance industry, including operational and financial dynamics.
  • Advanced querying skills (SQL or MS Access) and expert-level proficiency in Excel.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and project management skills.
  • Ability to conceptualize complex issues, analyze data effectively, and communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of complex business issues and drive them to resolution.
