Job Summary

This role involves representing the Actuarial Reserving team in a variety of strategic business projects, working within a collaborative and high-performing international team.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Responsibilities

  • Lead projects initiated by the Actuarial Reserving team.
  • Act as the representative for the Reserving team in group-wide projects.
  • Manage relationships with auditors and external actuaries, including reviewing and challenging analyses as necessary.
  • Perform calculations related to group reinsurance covers.
  • Oversee the construction of loss development triangles for reporting and accounts.
  • Lead performance-related pay (PRP) analysis.
  • Build and maintain constructive working relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Mentor and provide support to assistant reserving actuaries, with potential line management responsibilities.
  • Peer-review work to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Act as a technical expert and trusted advisor on reserving and related matters.
  • Ensure the maintenance of documentation, adhering to review requirements and obtaining necessary approvals.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices, regulatory changes, and new initiatives.
  • Identify and implement improvements in valuation processes and methodologies.
  • Pursue applicable professional, technical, and career development training.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

  • University degree in Mathematics or a related field.
  • Professional actuarial qualification.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Competence in MS Excel; familiarity with ResQ software preferred.
  • Knowledge of VBA, Access, SQL, SAS, WPS, R, and Python is advantageous.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
  • General understanding of commercial and financial concepts.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience in reserving; knowledge of the Lloyd’s market is a plus.
  • Familiarity with technical provisions for Solvency II is preferred.
  • Proficient in fundamental actuarial techniques.
  • Understanding of reinsurance.
  • Project management experience is desirable.
