A leading financial services organization is seeking a Director of Liability Modeling to join a team of ten experienced modelers specializing in the development and support of in-force models. This role primarily involves working with GGY-Axis models, contributing to modeling operations, and driving innovation within the actuarial function. The position offers hybrid work arrangements in New York or Connecticut, with the potential for fully remote work.
Key Responsibilities
- Model Updates and Process Compliance: Update AXIS models and ensure all model change processes adhere to established procedures and governance standards.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Engage with actuarial stakeholders to identify and fulfill business needs related to modeling activities.
- Process Improvement: Proactively seek opportunities to enhance the end-to-end modeling process for greater efficiency and accuracy.
- Legacy Conversion: Lead the conversion of legacy or non-modeled business into the AXIS framework for streamlined operations.
- Model Modernization: Drive the upgrade of existing models to align with leading industry practices and standards.
- Model Risk Management: Serve as a model owner or an independent reviewer, supporting model risk management initiatives.
- Team Leadership and Collaboration: Work both independently and collaboratively to achieve team goals, actively participating in meetings and departmental initiatives.
- Professional Development: Pursue relevant certifications and credentials to further personal growth as an actuary.
Required Qualifications
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., actuarial science, accounting, finance, information systems, or data science) from an accredited institution.
- Software Expertise: Advanced knowledge of Moody’s AXIS actuarial software and experience working in a structured modeling environment.
- Technical Skills: Basic to intermediate knowledge of tools such as SQL, Microsoft Access, PowerBI, R, Python, and Alteryx for data management and analysis.
- Critical Thinking: Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present findings and collaborate effectively with supervisors and stakeholders.
- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives and contribute to team success.
