Join a dynamic team as the Lead Actuary for Public D&O, Financial Institutions, and Transactional Liability lines of business, managing $250 million in GWP within a broader $800 million Financial Lines portfolio. This leadership role supports strategic initiatives across underwriting, finance, claims, and IT to drive profitable growth and influence decision-making at senior levels. The position includes managing an actuarial associate.
Key Responsibilities:
Pricing and Strategy:
- Refine, enhance, and develop rating and pricing models.
- Identify and analyze critical pricing and profitability benchmarks.
- Design and implement sophisticated pricing strategies for growth.
- Analyze internal pricing results and external competitor data.
- Develop and maintain pricing monitoring systems and tools.
- Apply R/SQL and predictive modeling to innovate and improve processes.
- Collaborate with actuarial colleagues supporting similar lines of business.
General Actuarial Functions:
- Support financial planning and budgeting processes.
- Partner with underwriting to guide and monitor business strategies.
- Drive improvements in data quality and procedural efficiency.
- Present analyses and recommendations to inform strategic decisions.
- Lead semi-annual reserve studies and support rate filings where needed.
Leadership:
- Manage and mentor one actuarial associate to build team strength.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or a related field.
- ACAS or FCAS preferred, though experienced non-exam candidates are considered.
- Minimum of 5 years of Property and Casualty actuarial experience.
- Experience in Financial Lines (D&O, EPL, E&O, Cyber) preferred; other low-frequency, high-severity experience considered.
- Proficiency in actuarial pricing and reserving techniques.
- Advanced technical skills, including high proficiency in Excel and experience with R/SQL.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and teamwork abilities.
- Self-motivated and independently driven to identify and deliver value.
Work Arrangement:
- Hybrid or Remote: Candidates near Hartford, CT; Charlotte, NC; Chicago, IL; or New York, NY, are expected onsite three days per week (Tuesday-Thursday). Remote candidates should be available for occasional in-office presence as needed.
