We are looking for a dynamic individual to join the Commercial Auto team as a Director of Actuarial & Analytics. In this role, you’ll lead initiatives that enhance products, modernize tools, and advance analytics, all while managing a team and collaborating with key stakeholders.


About the Role

This position is a leadership role, providing opportunities to influence strategic decision-making, execute operational initiatives, and deliver measurable impact. You will serve as a subject matter expert in commercial auto insurance, overseeing the development of pricing tools, implementing product enhancements, and conducting actuarial/statistical analyses.

You’ll collaborate closely with analytics, research, product, and filing teams, and oversee one direct report. This role combines strategic influence, technical expertise, and team management to drive the success of the business.


Key Responsibilities

Strategy

  • Assess, prioritize, and present strategic initiatives to senior leaders.
  • Lead the execution of assigned strategic projects and generate process improvements.
  • Explore and propose innovative opportunities within the business unit.
  • Participate in cross-unit and enterprise-wide initiatives on a limited basis.

Operational Execution

  • Perform actuarial and analytical tasks to solve business challenges.
  • Translate business requirements into actionable analytical solutions.
  • Oversee daily operations and ensure timely project execution.
  • Provide direction and review analytical work conducted by team members.
  • Drive efficiency by balancing effort with the incremental value of results.

Communication

  • Engage regularly with peers, team members, and business partners, and occasionally with senior leadership.
  • Deliver insights and recommendations tailored to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Create formal reports, memos, and presentations with minimal guidance.
  • Lead discussions and collaborate across teams to achieve business objectives.

Talent Management

  • Directly manage a small team of individual contributors.
  • Drive talent acquisition, retention, and development within the unit.
  • Oversee performance management, goal setting, and personal development initiatives.
  • Mentor less experienced staff and onboard new employees.
  • Support training, recruitment, and talent assessment across the organization.

What You Bring

  • A strong background in actuarial or statistical methods, with expertise in areas such as reserving, pricing, planning, forecasting, or research.
  • Proven ability to lead and execute strategic and operational initiatives.
  • Experience influencing senior leaders and collaborating across functional teams.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Leadership experience with talent development and team management.
