We seek a highly experienced Chief Actuary to lead the actuarial function within our organization. This key leadership role is responsible for forecasting, reserving, and supporting contracting processes while driving data-driven insights into organizational strategy. The Chief Actuary will also oversee benchmarking activities, establish a Medical Economics Unit, and actively foster a culture of collaboration and mentorship across teams.
The role offers flexibility regarding remote work within the United States, requiring periodic travel.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Forecasting
- Lead efforts to predict revenue and costs across business operations.
- Build statistical models to assess variability in forecasts.
- Collaborate with finance, performance, and analytics teams to develop short- and long-term forecasting models.
2. Reserving
- Develop strategies to meet financial reserve and letter of credit requirements in partnership with finance and payer teams.
- Lead actuarial negotiations with health plans, recommending cost-effective reserve solutions.
3. Contracting
- Design and implement models to evaluate the financial terms of health plan contracts.
- Support negotiation processes by analyzing financial risks and contract impacts on reserve requirements.
- Lead actuarial negotiations during contract execution and reconciliation processes.
4. Benchmarking and Market Intelligence
- Monitor actuarial trends among peers, health plans, and other market participants.
- Translate trends into actionable assumptions for forecasting and resource planning.
5. Medical Economics Unit
- Establish and lead a unit to analyze key cost drivers in at-risk populations.
- Monitor and project the impact of pilots and interventions on population health and organizational costs.
- Provide data-driven insights to internal and external stakeholders, including potential investors.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Proven actuarial leadership experience in healthcare, with 15+ years of relevant education and work experience.
- Deep understanding of government healthcare programs such as Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and the Affordable Care Act.
- Fellowship-level certification from the Society of Actuaries or equivalent credential.
- Strong quantitative skills, including expertise in statistical analysis and predictive modeling.
- Experience negotiating multi-million-dollar contracts and collaborating on cross-functional initiatives.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex actuarial concepts for diverse stakeholders.
Preferred Skills
- Proficiency in data manipulation tools (e.g., SQL, R, SAS).
- Familiarity with healthcare data, including claims and EHR systems.
- Experience developing visualizations, dashboards, and reports for varied audiences.
