Key Responsibilities

Client Delivery

  • High-Quality Service: Ensure all client work meets the highest standards, including reviewing and signing off actuarial calculations where applicable.
  • Client Relationships: Build and nurture relationships with clients at all levels, ensuring breadth and depth of engagement for consistent service delivery.
  • Advice Preparation: Collaborate with team members to prepare and deliver client advice, reviewing work for accuracy and adherence to professional standards.
  • Project Management: Consult with clients to agree on budgets, deadlines, and necessary service agreements.
  • Client Invoicing: Prepare client invoices in line with internal procedures and deadlines.

Practice Development

  • Innovation and Growth: Proactively contribute to firm development through high-quality client work, solution delivery, and account expansion.
  • New Initiatives: Participate in project work, champion new service offerings, and pitch for new business.
  • Team Development: Mentor and train junior staff, fostering professional growth and technical excellence.
  • Thought Leadership: Contribute to technical knowledge development, professional forums, and strategic initiatives within the firm.

Working Practices

  • Team Leadership: Provide mentorship and role modeling to team members, supporting client development opportunities and addressing potential risks.
  • Compliance and Quality: Prepare work consistent with professional standards, maintaining comprehensive audit trails and adhering to internal quality procedures.
  • Time Management: Track and record time against appropriate codes and ensure efficient client service delivery within budgets and timelines.
  • Industry Knowledge: Stay updated on developments in pensions law and practice, and participate in preparing technical publications for internal and external use.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Qualifications: Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (or equivalent), with significant pensions experience. A Scheme Actuary certificate is not required.
  • Legislative Expertise: Strong understanding of UK pension schemes’ legislative framework, including statutory reporting and disclosure requirements.
  • Technical Proficiency: Experience with statutory actuarial calculations, corporate transactions, risk transfer, liability management, and bulk transfers.
  • Strategic Insight: Ability to advise clients on broader employee benefits strategies and collaborate effectively with other disciplines.
