This actuarial position is a key contributor to the Risk Solutions Pricing Team within Retirement Income Solutions (RIS). The Risk Solutions business encompasses diverse product lines, including UK Reinsurance, Specialized Benefit Resources, and Post Retirement Benefits.
Position Overview:
The successful candidate will report to the VP of Risk Solutions Pricing and support quantitative analysis for underwriting, pricing, and transaction management aligned with enterprise strategy. This highly visible role interacts with senior leaders within RIS and other corporate functions, offering opportunities to influence management decisions and drive results.
The focus of this role is on pricing for UK Reinsurance, with an emphasis on underwriting and pricing longevity reinsurance transactions. The position involves collaborating across actuarial, investments, operations, legal, risk, and finance teams. This candidate will help create value through robust pricing strategies and may also lead and manage a small team of actuaries.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform underwriting tasks, including predictive mortality modeling and transaction-specific mortality experience analysis.
- Lead discussions and presentations with stakeholders to align on mortality assumptions.
- Model liabilities, reserves, asset returns, capital projections, and risk sensitivities for financial analysis.
- Analyze pricing metrics such as return on investment, value of new business, and capital allocation.
- Support pricing strategies and contribute insights during pricing governance meetings.
- Potentially lead and manage a small team of actuaries focused on UK Reinsurance underwriting and pricing.
- Engage with external clients to discuss current and prospective transactions.
- Collaborate closely with business leaders, R&D, investments, finance, legal, and other corporate functions to structure and optimize profitable deals.
Qualifications
Required:
- Strong presentation and written communication skills.
- Advanced analytical, financial modeling, and problem-solving abilities.
- Leadership qualities and ability to manage a small team.
- Proven ability to work effectively within a matrixed organizational structure.
- 7+ years of experience in insurance or reinsurance.
- Fellowship of the Society of Actuaries (FSA).
- Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related discipline.
Preferred:
- Experience in pricing group annuity risks and case-specific mortality underwriting.
- Familiarity with Prophet software.
