Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pricing Actuary to provide expert pricing and analytical support to our underwriting teams. In this pivotal role, you will contribute to developing, maintaining, and enhancing pricing tools and processes, ensuring compliance with standards while fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

Technical

  • Deliver pricing and analytics support to underwriting teams, including:
    • Developing pricing tools to estimate price adequacy and rate changes.
    • Conducting portfolio and transactional pricing analyses.
    • Performing segmental analyses (e.g., Class of Business, new/renewal trends) and monitoring performance metrics.
    • Supporting ceded reinsurance pricing processes.
  • Design, maintain, and review pricing models to meet required standards.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports for the Underwriting Committee.
  • Provide training to underwriters on pricing, benchmarking, and rate change methodologies.
  • Ensure compliance with underwriting controls and Lloyd’s minimum underwriting standards.
  • Collaborate with underwriters, claims managers, and data teams to maintain data quality and enhance pricing capabilities.
  • Document pricing models with appropriate managerial reviews and approvals.
  • Contribute to actuarial projects, such as liability transfer valuations and business planning analyses.
  • Mentor junior team members and support their technical development.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices, regulatory changes, and emerging initiatives.
  • Drive process improvements in pricing methodologies and workflows.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

  • University degree in Mathematics or a related field.
  • Fully qualified actuary.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong commercial and financial acumen.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills; knowledge of VBA, Access, SQL, and R is a plus.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently.
  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and prioritise tasks effectively.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Demonstrated pricing experience, with knowledge of Lloyd’s or the London Market preferred.
  • Solid understanding of actuarial and statistical techniques in pricing.
  • Knowledge of reinsurance and capital models as applied to pricing.
