HEWITT STONE

Background

Barnett Waddingham has grown to become the UK’s as largest independent provider of actuarial, administration and consultancy services. From humble beginnings with just 20 people, the firm now numbers over 720, with offices in seven locations around the UK.

Hewitt Stone was required to source a senior capital actuary to support and drive their continued growth in the market.

Challenge

As a niche provider of actuarial services, despite having a strong message, it was never going to be easy to find an experienced capital actuary who was accustomed to taking change and working autonomously in dealing with clients.

Candidates with this sort of experience were highly sought after, not only by larger consultancies, but also by insurance businesses. This was certainly a challenge, considering the finite pool of candidates available that would meet the organisation’s high standards.

The Solution

After meeting with the client to discuss their requirements in great detail, we instantly identified the need to ensure the brand message is strong enough to attract the calibre of individuals required to fill this position.

Internally, we had to combine a number of methodologies to identify, target, and convince suitable candidates for the role. Once we had identified the potential targets, we engaged deeply with them around their motivations. We also implemented our unique screening strategy which led to a shortlist of nine candidates being presented for the position.

The quality of all nine profiles was so high that the client simply could not decide between them. Nine CVs resulted in nine interviews. This demonstrated our unrivalled CV to interview conversion ratio.
