HEWITT STONE

Background

Building on our success on the GI side of the business, we were invited to work on their Life Actuarial requirements.

The Challenge

They had a need for a senior manager with extensive Life Actuarial experience to lead teams and project work streams including project planning, budgeting and performance management of the team members a high calibre professional to build strong client relationships and become a trusted advisor.

Commercially, they needed someone who would contribute to the growth of the practice, by networking internally and externally, and play a significant part in new business proposals and presentations.

The level of seniority and breadth of experience required for this position meant the target pool of suitable candidates was quite limited.

The Solution

In the knowledge that the pool of experienced actuaries got thinner the higher up the ranks one goes, we recognised it would be ineffective to employ an advertised search methodology. The breadth of skills required for the position made the target pool candidates that much sparse.

We had to borrow from our executive search methodology to conduct an in-depth mapping exercise to identify high-flyers with the required skill set. Employing a discrete headhunting approach, we were able to identity a hand full of suitable candidates.

Upon delivering our shortlist of suitable candidates, we successfully filled the position by one of our candidates.
