KPMG in the UK has over 10,000 partners and staff working in 22 offices and is part of a strong global network of member firms. The business had gone through some testing times and needed to rebuild and strengthen their actuarial function significantly. The plan was to establish their Actuarial consulting practice as the leader of the pack. Word had spread in the market about Hewitt Stone’s efficiency and effectiveness which led to us being invited to recruit for KPMG UK.

Barnett Waddingham has grown to become the UK’s as largest independent provider of actuarial, administration and consultancy services. From humble beginnings with just 20 people, the firm now numbers over 720, with offices in seven locations around the UK.
Hewitt Stone was required to source a senior capital actuary to support and drive their continued growth in the market.

Towergate Insurance is an award winning and a leading insurance intermediary, created to offer personal and business customers specialist insurance. Towergate is a growing business which has made over 150 very carefully selected business acquisitions in just 15 years.
Hewitt Stone was drafted in to help them source a suitable candidate for a highly specialised pricing requirement.

Impossible is two letters too long

AXA is the number 1 global insurance brand 2014 (Interbrand Top 100 Global Brands 2014). With over 10 million customers and approximately 10,500 employees, they are truly a top global brand. In the UK, AXA specialises in Wealth Management, Insurance, and Healthcare. The businesses had a requirement for a Pricing Actuary which was proving impossible to fill. After many months of trying to fill the position through other agencies, Hewitt Stone was offered an opportunity to join their panel of preferred suppliers.

The Co-operative Group is the UK’s largest mutual business, owned by millions of members. Alongside The Co-operative Insurance, they have the UK fifth biggest food retailer, the UK number one funeral services provider, and a developing legal services business.Following a lengthy search for a suitable candidate to join their pricing team, their existing suppliers were simply unable to fill the position. Hewitt Stone was then invited to work on the position.

Australian Heights

The Australian partnership of Deloitte Touche has more than 570 partners and 6,000 people located in 14 offices across the country, plus offices in PNG, Timor-Leste, and India, with revenues of AU$1.336 billion for the fiscal year ending 31 May 2015 a 15% increase over the prior year.Building on our success with Deloitte in the UK, Hewitt Stone had an opportunity to work with Deloitte in Australia to find a suitable senior individual for a leadership role.

EY in Singapore is a global brand, committed to building a better working world with increased trust and confidence in business, sustainable growth, development of talent in all its forms, and greater collaboration. Their ambition is to build a better working world through their own actions and by engaging with like-minded organizations and individuals. They had a need for a Manager to work on capital modelling, but also have exposure to other areas such as ERM and Reserving. After trying to fill this position via local agencies without success, Hewitt Stone was invited to help find a suitable candidate.

Consistent Success

They had a need for a senior manager with extensive Life Actuarial experience to lead teams and project work streams including project planning, budgeting and performance management of the team members a high calibre professional to build strong client relationships and become a trusted advisor. Commercially, they needed someone who would contribute to the growth of the practice, by networking internally and externally, and play a significant part in new business proposals and presentations.

Truly impressed – Deloitte

Deloitte, in the UK, employs over 14,000 staff members and generated over £2.55 billion from their work in audit, tax, consulting and corporate finance. In 2014, they invested over 27 million on learning and development for their employees. The business had a requirement for a senior capital actuary to take on a leadership role within their actuarial consulting practice. Hewitt Stone was offered an initial trial period of 6 months to assess how we would perform with respect to finding suitable candidates for the business.
DirectLine Group

Hewitt Stone to the rescue

Direct Line Group employs a staff of over 12,500 and operates through a number sites in the UK. With a market share of 14% of the UK personal motor insurance and 17% of the UK home insurance market, DLG is one of UK major brands and a significant player in the UK insurance market.
For many months, the business was unable to fill a group reserving actuary role through their existing actuarial talent suppliers. Eventually, when every other agency had failed, Hewitt Stone was invited to fill the position.

True revelation at first engagement

Randall & Quilter, an AIM listed financial services group which specialises in a wide range of Insurance products and services, engaged Hewitt Stone for the first time.

Despite having existing agency relationships, they were unable to find a suitable candidate through the agencies on their PSL for several weeks.
